Skills & Experience
I have been working as a designer for the past ten years, my varied experience – detailed below, ranging from employed to freelance – has enabled me to utilise all my skills from web & digital through to graphic design, and developed my abilities to work both B2B and B2C in equal capacity.
- 11 GCSE’s grade A -C
- 4 A-Levels grade A – D
- 2:1 (BSC Hons) Multimedia Systems
- Responsive Newsletters
- Web design / Graphic Design / Newsletter (Responsive) Design
- Website Content Management Platforms (WordPress, Pilot)
- Email Marketing Systems (Adestra, MessageFocus)
- Adobe Creative Suite (Dreamweaver, Illustrator, inDesign, Photoshop)
- Web Banners / Google Sites
- FTP clients (Filezilla, Cyberduck)
Since day dot I could always be found with a pencil in hand. In adult life this creativity has led to work on a number of freelance projects ranging from start up businesses to global corporations – building relationships directly with clients as part of the process.
My greatest passion is building an identity unique to each business, and as such, projects will often start at the drawing board - creating a logo and developing branding to work across all digital platforms and any print material required by the business; business stationary, brochures, leaflets and catalogues.
My freelance experience also includes a number of white label projects, outsourced to me by both local and London-based design agencies. I have had the fortunate opportunity to have been involved with some exciting and large scale projects on this basis - it has also provided me with a great insight of how large agencies work and has kept me abreast of new advances in technology and design.
DK, Penguin Random House
As DK’s Digital Designer for almost six years, I am responsible for all the web and digital design projects required by the Marketing and PR teams. On a monthly basis I design and build around four newsletters to send to client lists of 100k+ subscribers. I analyse results and continually find ways to boost open / click through rates and engage subscribers with DK’s content through interesting and clean designs. I manage the company website - dk.com, – designing carousel banners to market latest book releases and showcase downloadable content, and web banner ads used to promote DK across third party sites such as Amazon. This often involves working within tight brand guidelines as DK license brands such as LEGO, Marvel and Disney.
As part of the role I work with the website CMS, Adestra Email Marketing System for newsletters, Google Sites, WordPress, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, inDesign and Photoshop.
SURFANIC, Snowboard Co.
I worked as a Graphic Designer for Snowboard/Surf brand Surfanic for three years, it was a very exciting role as it allowed me to be creative in a totally different way. As an assistant to the lead designer and product developer I was involved in initial meetings to discuss new collection ideas and colour palettes, I designed new prints and labels for use across clothing/luggage and compiled detailed tech packs ready for factory manufacture - ensuring samples came in accurate to instruction. Communication with the far east and Asia was an integral part of the role, as were trips to ski shows – such as ISPO in Munich – to keep abreast with competition and latest trends.
My final project was to design a luggage range encompassing different design features in accordance to how they would be used on the slopes - these went into production as I left and I still enjoy spotting a bag of my design coming through airport luggage!
